Android app development in Kotlin and Java

Native Android apps from our in-house team in Rajkot, India: Kotlin for new work, Java where an app already uses it, led by Kinnari, our Android Development Lead. Separately, five Android apps we built for clients are live on Google Play. Those case studies show each app and our role; a language is named only where it is on record.

Who this suits

  • Products where Android is the main market, or where the app leans on Android-specific features.
  • Companies continuing an existing native Android app, including older Java code.
  • Hardware makers who need an Android app for a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi device.

What we take on

Native Android, from first build to the next target API deadline.

  • New apps in Kotlin

Kotlin with Jetpack Compose or XML views, chosen for your product and whoever maintains it later.

  • Existing Java apps

Continuing Java code as it stands, or adding Kotlin alongside it step by step, without stopping feature work.

  • Device connections

Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth Classic pairing and Wi-Fi control of the hardware you make.

  • Accounts

Sign-in with email, phone code or Google; Firebase; REST APIs; push notifications; barcode and QR scanning.

  • Payments and maps

Stripe and Razorpay payments, Google Maps routing and location features.

  • Google Play updates

Target API updates, library upgrades, Play policy fixes and release management. Since 31 August 2026, new apps and updates must target Android 16 (API 36); Google changes this each year.

Choosing the build

Is native Android the right choice?

Not always. It depends on these.

Native Android
The app depends on background work, Android hardware features or a Bluetooth device, or you have an existing native codebase.
Flutter
You need iOS and Android together, with one design, and no unusual platform features.
Flutter app development
Android first
Your first users are on Android and iOS can wait. A clean native Android app is a good first release.

    Android Development Lead

Kinnari leads native Android development: the Android side of the apps the mobile team builds and maintains.

How an engagement runs

  1. You tell us what you need and what exists today.
  2. We agree a written scope, or a dedicated team, with you.
  3. We build in short cycles you review, then release and support.
How we work, in detail

Questions

Before you get in touch

Can I download Android apps you have built?

Yes. Five Android apps we built for clients are live on Google Play: Background Eraser Photo Editor (10M+ downloads), Profile Picture Border Frames (500K+), 1000x Zoom: Ultra Zoom Camera (500K+), AI Photo Prompt: Couple Photo (100K+) and Oxygen Level Tracker - Pulse (50K+). These are Google Play's public download bands, checked on 4 November 2026. Each listing is the client's and names the client, not us, and store ratings reflect the client's product decisions as well as the build. Our case studies do not state a language for these apps unless it is on record.

Kotlin or Java?

Kotlin for new work. Java when you have an existing Java codebase, where rewriting everything would cost more than it gives back. The two work side by side, so a migration can happen a screen at a time.

Jetpack Compose or XML views?

Compose is a sound choice for new screens. XML views are still sensible in an existing app that uses them throughout, and the two can be mixed during a gradual move.

Can you update our app for Google Play's target API deadline?

Yes. Since 31 August 2026, new apps and updates must target Android 16 (API 36), and existing apps below Android 15 (API 35) stop reaching new users on newer Android versions. We need the source code, the upload key and Play Console access. If the key is missing, the takeover page explains the options.

Do you build Android apps for Bluetooth devices?

Yes. Our published connected-device work includes Android apps, and our IoT page describes it. The hardware and firmware in those cases were the client's; the app was ours.

Who holds the Google Play account?

We recommend your company holds it, so the listing stays yours whichever team you work with.

Tell us about your Android app.

What it should do, who will use it, and whether any code exists today. A few sentences is enough.
